I fully intended to write a post all about our Christmas and everything else that happened during the holidays, but I wanted to include pictures. Usually I type my post first on the laptop and then add photos from the app on my phone, however, the app has been inaccessible for a couple weeks (and two updates). Hoping I can resolve that issue soon so I can share photos, but in the meantime I figured I'd make productive use of the time I need to be up in the middle of the night with my little insomniac... Our nursing schedule has been a bit of a mess through the holiday season, particularly the week of Christmas. Thankfully, the newest schedule looks better... however, last night's nurse called in sick. The agency was able to fill most of the hours with another nurse, but when we decided we would prefer she be symptom free a bit longer before coming to our house tonight, no coverage was to be found.
I don't so much mind the occasional overnight. He is stable enough that I feel comfortable sleeping some as long as I'm in the same room with him. His alarms would wake me if anything were to need attention, but truthfully it's never been the alarms that have gotten my attention anyway. Even in my sleep I hear subtle changes that wake me before any alarms go off. We just set up the pack-n-play in the living room, and I crash on the couch. The night started off great! He fell asleep fairly early for him - before 10pm. I, on the other hand, did not doze off until sometime after midnight. My phone alarm woke me to do the 2am meds. When I went to roll him from his side to his back, ever so careful not to wake him, I realized he had managed to completely soak his diaper, sleeper, and bedding. *sigh* So much for quick, easy, and keeping him asleep! It took me about 20 minutes to get Ki all cleaned up, change the bedding, wipe everything down, and give him his meds. He was happy the entire time. Of course, now it is 3am and the little stinker is still awake. He's just lying contentedly in his pack-n-play which is great. However, I don't feel comfortable falling asleep when he is awake, so here I sit... We had a scheduled 12 hour family shift for Sunday, but thankfully the clinical manager was able to find coverage for part of the day, so I should be able to head to my bed for a few hours after the nurse gets here, or at least get a nap in at some point. His heart rate is dropping occasionally, giving the false impression that perhaps he will fall asleep, but then after about a minute it pops back up to typical awake numbers. I just heard a yawn, though, so I am hopeful sleep will come soon!
